Therapy Approach
We understand that one shoe does not fit all. We specialize in several different types of therapies to help everyone. Please take a look to see what other services we offer.
Ideas that guide my practice:
-
Relational
When I say that I am a relational therapist, this means that I see our therapy as a healing relationship. I believe that many are deeply harmed in the context of relationship. And we also heal through a good, compassionate relationship. When given the experience of a trusted therapy relationship, you can discover better paths forward for your life.
-
Trauma-Informed
Many of us experience some form of trauma in our lives, but we each are impacted differently by this trauma. Some develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, while some live their lives with a vague sense that the world is unsafe or that people can’t be trusted. In my work, I look for how you might have experienced trauma and how it uniquely affects you. Together we explore ways to recover and heal from this trauma.
-
Anti-Racist, Anti-Oppressive Practice
I am a cis-white-bodied therapist, who is committed to anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice. There is a deep and historical racialized trauma in our society. I am dedicated to addressing white supremacy and to healing racialized trauma. My work is guided by Resmaa Menakem’s Somatic Abolitionism. Therapy has the potential to unearth racialized trauma and begin to heal embodied reactions and patterns. I am committed to racialized healing in my work.
-
Compassionate
My job is not to judge or critique you. Most of us already harshly judge ourselves. I work to create a safe, non-judgmental space to explore ANYTHING that is going on in your life. Through compassionate acceptance, together we can help you discover your own inner wisdom about how to live your best life.
-
Narrative
Our lives our made up of the stories we have lived AND also the stories we tell ourselves. As a child, perhaps someone else got to write your story. Perhaps your story had pain or difficulty. As an adult, YOU are the author of your own life. Maybe at times it doesn’t feel that way. Maybe it can feel like depression, anxiety, stress, or even another person dictates your life events. Through therapy, we can help you become your best-author once again. Through the retelling of your life story, healing happens.
